We have to make sure that justice is done for Trayvon Martin. This is a senseless killing and it could have been any child of any color in America. As an author, it is sometimes important to take a stand on issues even if it means jeopardizing book sales. In this instance, we are talking about a young man who cannot stand witness for himself. It is up to us to make sure that his senseless killing did not happen in vain. There are too many instances of young people being killed. This young man was not trying to die on that night. He had too much promise and unfortunately those are the children who are falling victim to violence.
Personally, I have witnessed court cases that have released the carjacker and the robber back on the street. However, a student who got in trouble and was with the wrong person at the wrong time has the book thrown at them. We have to be aware that racial profiling exists. Just because it hasn't happened to you doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Let's demand justice for Trayvon Martin.
